Alton Ice-Out Contest 2014

The Alton Business Association conducted their annual Ice-Out Contest. Ice-Out is defined as the moment when the M/S Mount Washington can reach each of its ports unobstructed by ice. Local residents who are considered experts in the art of ice watching, supplemented by observations from aircraft, pinpoints the official date and time of the Ice-Out. Ice Out this year was Wednesday, April 23 at 2:10 p.m. We received 66 entries from Alton residents this year and the winner with the closest guess was Larry Sullivan (4/23 at 4:23 p.m.) Mr. Sullivan won a gift basket with prizes and gift certificates from local Alton business. Those participating were: Old Bay Diner, Mt. Major Snowmobile Club, Building Maintenance Services, Dale’s Lock & Key, PDK Cottages and Excavation, Profile Bank, Speedy Wash, Wayside Circle Store, Woodland’s Tavern and Village Pizza.
